Expansion leads to million-pound investment

Millions invested: HELDECO is modernising and massively expanding the social and recreational facilities for its employees. Office space will also be increased. This step is necessary due to the personnel expansion course of recent years. Only Styrian companies are responsible for the redevelopment.

The groundbreaking ceremony has already taken place, and renovation work is already underway: over the coming weeks and months, HELDECO will not only be milling, turning, drilling, and welding components and system solutions for international industries, but most importantly, it will be ensuring the finishing touches – specifically to the company's own infrastructure. The owner-managed family business from Upper Styria – a leader in the processing of complex components with over 14,000 successfully completed projects across Europe – is expanding the premises of the existing office and social wing over two floors by a further 800 square metres.

It's important to us that our employees can feel comfortable and find places to retreat to during their breaks where they can socialise in a pleasant atmosphere, rest purposefully, or eat something.

While new infrastructure for the existing tool magazine is being created on the ground floor, modern social and sanitary facilities for the HELDECO specialists are being developed on the newly created premises on the upper floor. Six additional office workstations, a spacious training and conference room, and a sun terrace will also find space on the new premises.

Employee Focus

„It's important to us that our employees feel comfortable and can find places to retreat to during their breaks where they can chat in a pleasant atmosphere, specifically relax, or have something to eat. That's why, during the planning – together with the responsible company ‚GreenConcept‘ – we focused primarily on creating a meeting zone for our employees,“ explains Helmut Dettenweitz, owner and managing director of HELDECO.

Styrian Value Creation

The company is investing a total of 1.2 million euros in the expansion. The new premises are set to open as early as October this year. Local companies are solely responsible for the swift implementation: „It is important to us to work with high-quality partners and, at the same time, to increase local value creation. We are therefore delighted that we have succeeded in ensuring that 100 percent of the main trades, and thus the value creation, remain in the region,“ says Dettentweitz. For orientation: Hölblinger & Zefferer from Mariazell is acting as the general contractor, Holosch from Aflenz is the installer, the tiles will be laid by Ablasser from St. Barbara, and Graff from Kapfenberg is responsible for the electrical engineering.

HELDECO apprentices occupy two out of three leadership positions

The expansion has also made necessary the personnel expansion course of recent years: since 2019, the company has grown by more than a quarter – to a total of 75 employees. „Through continuous investment in our machinery, we have also created numerous new jobs at the site recently – despite challenging economic conditions in international markets,“ explains Dettenweitz.

The growth course is made possible primarily by in-house apprentice training: around 60 percent of skilled workers have been trained within the company, and every second management position is filled by a former apprentice.

„In fact, HELDECO's apprenticeship programme, where we integrate young people into the company's operations and our team from day one, is an important foundation for our company's success. Accordingly, we are constantly looking for young, motivated employees who want to embark on a promising career with us, for example, as cutting machine operators, welders or logistics specialists,“ explains authorised signatory Sabine Dettenweitz.

She particularly encourages female applicants: „The apprenticeships at our company offer great career opportunities for young women too.“

When things get tough.
